When you blend the rich, soulful vocal tones with the vibrant, percussive timbre of a guitar, you get Karrie Hayward – practically music when it meets the ocean. This alt singer-songwriter is the tidal wave when it comes to washing up the stage and has already risen up on many stages in the Australian Music Scene. Since spending the first three years of her childhood in the Kakadu National Park, this songstress is now based in Far North Queensland where her songwriting implements a coastal vibe.
“A lot of my songwriting is inspired by the things I see and the people I meet. Living on the coast, I spend a lot of time at the beach which is where I draw most of my inspiration and what I like to consider as happy thinking time.”
Since performing at local music festivals at the age of nine, Hayward’s love of music, in all genres, grew. Drawing inspiration from blues music and guitar heroes such as John Mayer, Buddy Guy, BB King; to the more ‘chilled’ sounds of Jack Johnson and Ed Sheeran, Karrie’s own style is a blend of the best parts of folk, country, alt and blues. Her unique music combines soul with the ocean, musically, seeking sounds similar to John Butler, Jack Johnson and Cody Simpson.
Karrie has rolled into 2016 with her new summer-soaked single, ‘Elijah’ which brought success, achieving #9 on the ITunes Singer-Songwriter chart. The song was inspired by a guitar riff and a line that captured the essence of life and how good it is! ‘Elijah’ was recorded and produced by Aria Award and Golden Guitar winning, Matt Fell at Love Hz Studio in Sydney and written with brother and sister duo, Glen and Kaylee from Kaylen’s Rain. Karrie’s new single, ‘Elijah’ is the perfect introduction of the big things to come from this up and coming songstress. Now finished high school, she’s taken on being a musician full time and sharing her music to the world as she travels around the country.
